Can I just brag on Jesus for a second? The past few weeks He has done nothing but confirm His plan for my life. He has been so faithful! Let me go back a little bit. I love Spanish and all throughout high school and college when people would hear this they would ask, “Do you wanna teach Spanish?” I would quickly respond, “No! I could NEVER teach!” Well, friends, let me tell you… never say never! As I write, I am sitting in a hotel at Liberty University taking my last class EVER to become a Spanish TEACHER. Yep, I am going to do the one thing I said I’d never do. Now, though, I can’t see myself doing anything else.
Back in January 2012, I felt God call me to teach. I was very unsure about it at first since I never really wanted to teach and well, teaching just felt out of my comfort zone. However, Jesus kept persisting until I finally signed up for my first class at Liberty.
My journey toward God’s purpose for my life (teaching) definitely has not been easy. Crazy certification tests and taking 3 different classes at 3 different schools just are not mine (or anyone else’s) definition of “fun,” but I knew God had called me to teach so I knew I needed to keep pressing forward toward this goal.
There were even times when I really and honestly questioned God’s call on my life. Every time I failed my certification test, I would question. There are countless times when I would say to my husband, “If teaching is what God has called me to then why do I keep failing this test?” I still haven’t gotten the answer to that one yet.. probably never will.. but Jack continually encouraged me to follow God’s plan which meant to keep pushing until I passed.
Before I took my test for the third time, I found a verse in Psalm that jumped out at me. Psalm 138:8 says, “The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the works of your hands.” This Psalm became my prayer. I begged God to fulfill His purpose for me, and guess what? HE DID. After the fifth try, I finally passed my certification test! PRAISE JESUS! Even though I did not want to take the test that many times, God had that planned for a reason. I also got offered a job teaching Spanish. PRAISE JESUS! He fulfilled His purposes for me! He is so faithful.
Maybe you’re in a similar situation. If you are in Christ, He has a purpose and calling for you. Know that even though Christ has called you to do something, He still might put a few trials and obstacles in your path. Also know, though, that if Christ has called you to it, He will be faithful in bringing you through those obstacles. Christ WILL fulfill His purpose for you. Keep pushing, keep persevering, and when He does begin to fulfill His purpose for you, give Him all the credit, glory, and honor and allow Him to work through His calling on your life to do immeasurably more for His kingdom!
Jesus’s faithfulness is great! He has proved that over and over again to me this past week and all throughout my life. This “spin” on this great hymn describes Jesus’s faithfulness beautifully.
