To you, this looks like just a bunch of students crammed in a living room. To me, it’s a picture of God’s faithfulness and the Gospel. This living room has seen a lot. It’s seen varsity cheerleaders, Sunday school Christmas parties, Impact Weekends, and more events such as these where my friends, my brother’s friends, and the two of us got to fellowship with friends and hear about the love of Christ. This living room has also seen some sad times. This living room is where we sat together as a family and discussed Mom’s diagnosis, and this living room is where my family and I stood among friends and family praying and worshipping Christ soon after Mom took her last earthly breath. This house was built to hold students who could be loved on, have fun, and learn about the love of Christ. In the midst of that, this house has seen the good and the bad.
A while after Mom passed away, Daddy put this house up for sale. At first, I didn’t want to buy it. I thought it would be too weird living in the house I grew up in. However, after some talks with my husband, it just made sense. Mom and Dad built this house with the purpose of loving on people and ministering with it. That’s exactly why we wanted to buy a house. Fast forward to October 2013, and Jack and I were buying the house I grew up in. Let me tell you, God is so good, and He is so faithful!
Over the past few years, this house had seen a lot of sadness. In Ecclesiastes, Scripture says that there is a time to mourn and a time to laugh. Ecclesiastes 3:11a says, “He has made everything beautiful in its time…” In God’s time, He turned the mourning that this house experienced into something new and beautiful. Only He could do that.
The picture you see above is so beautiful to me because its exactly what this house was built for and its exactly why we bought this house. This house is going to get to see another group of students come through, have fun, and experience the love of Christ. What you see here is our youth group watching Billy Graham’s “My Hope America” (which I highly suggest watching!). After watching, we had 2 students receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior!!!! PRAISE THE LORD! If this is not a picture of the Gospel and God’s faithfulness, then I’m not sure what is.
God is so good. I can’t say that enough! These words I have written truly don’t describe the joy and worship I felt in my heart as I watched this scene unfold before my eyes that night. Maybe you’re going through a tough situation. I encourage you to hang on and allow God to use this time of mourning for His glory. He makes all things beautiful in His time, and He makes all things new. No matter what point you’re at in life, pray that God will open your eyes to seeing His faithfulness and His Gospel in every day life. When He does, worship Him for it and brag on Him! If you have a story about how Jesus has been faithful to you or has made something beautiful in your life, I would love to hear about it! Please share and brag on Jesus 🙂
