Today, Mom is celebrating her first birthday in heaven. I am so thankful for all of the birthdays I got to see her celebrate, but even more than her earthly birthday, I am even more thankful for her second birthday. By “second birthday,” I mean the day that Mom accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. On this day, Mom became a new creation for Scripture says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here!” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV). On the day that Mom accepted Jesus Christ, her old life was gone, and she was a new creation.
This “second birthday” is even more important to me than her earthly one. Because she was born again in Christ, I know that Mom is now in heaven, worshipping at the feet of Jesus- what a birthday!!
I pray that you have experienced being born again in Christ and accepting Him as your personal Lord and Savior. Before Mom did this, she thought that being a good person was good enough to get her into heaven. Mom learned, and I pray that you do too, that being a good person isn’t good enough. Sin first entered the world when Adam & Eve ate from the forbidden tree, and no sin at all can be in God’s presence. The Bible tells us in Romans 3:23 that, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” That means all of us have done something wrong in some way, shape, or form (ever told a little “white lie?”). Because of this, none of us can ever be good enough to get to heaven. What we can do though is accept Jesus Christ who paid the price for ALL of our sin. When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the price of every sin you will ever commit in the past, present, and future. You don’t have to be “good enough” to come to Jesus. Come to Him just as you are. Don’t buy in to the world’s lie that being a “good person” can get you eternal life. Just one sin is enough to separate you from Christ, but just one acceptance of His free gift of eternal life can bring you back to Him and you will have eternal life in His presence!
Like I said, Mom’s earthly birthday is today, and I have missed her a lot. However, I am so so SO thankful for her spiritual birthday, the day that she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord in Savior. I am thankful that she didn’t buy into the lie that the world tells that you can be “good enough” and get into heaven. Mom is worshipping at the feet of Jesus today, and if she could, I am sure she would tell you to make the decision to follow Christ now so that you can do the same thing when your time on earth is done. I am sure there is nothing like it. Don’t miss out on heaven. Don’t miss out on Jesus. I don’t want you to, Jesus doesn’t want you to, and Mom doesn’t want you to either.
Maybe you have questions about Jesus, eternal life, salavation, etc., it would give so much joy to get to talk and pray with you! Please, contact me! What a great first heavenly birthday present it would be for Mom to get to rejoice with the angels knowing someone else has accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior!
