I hope you all had a happy Easter! Sadly, society has turned Easter into a holiday just about the Easter bunny, dying eggs, and getting a new dress. While, yes, all of these things are so fun (I love getting a new dress!), these things are NOT at all what Easter is truly about! The true meaning of Easter can be summed up in this one verse: “He is not here; He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.” (Matthew 28:6 NIV). JESUS IS ALIVE! On Friday, He was beaten and killed on a cross, but on Sunday, He arose from the dead! All of this had to happen in order for the sins of the world to be forgiven. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice.
Easter meant a little more to me this year, though. When Jesus rose from the grave, He conquered death once and for all. As John Mark McMillan says, “The man Jesus Christ laid death in His grave,” (From his song “Death in His Grave”). This has always meant a lot to me, but this Easter, it meant so much more. Because of the resurrection, for those who are in Christ, death can no longer have a hold on them. Mom knew Jesus Christ so I know that death does not have a hold on her. Yes, she experienced physical death, but she is now more alive than she ever was with Jesus Christ in heaven. I’m not gonna lie, sometimes I get a little jealous that she is worshiping Him face to face! Jesus defeated sin and death- once and for all. Mom is whole and healed and cancer free. Resurrection Sunday gives us hope; therefore, we do not have to grieve like those without hope. Praise the Lord!
So, why Easter? Easter is because Jesus is alive, and because Jesus is alive, we do not have to fear death but can look forward to eternal life with Jesus Christ! Let’s celebrate Jesus’s resurrection every day and do what Jesus commands us in Matthew 28:19-20- Go and tell ALL nations about Him!
