Time is something we’re all familiar with. If you’re anything like me, a lot of times there’s not enough time in the day to get done all that needs to be done! Another thing we all know about is timing. We usually live off of schedules, have times for where we need to be and when, and we usually like to be in control of all of that. God knows all about timing too, and in fact, He’s the one who is actually in control of it! Often times, I want God to let me be in control of the timing of things in my life, or if there’s a decision or something I’m praying about, I want the timing of His answer to be NOW, when His answer might come at a later appointed time. If there is one lesson I learned in Mom’s journey, it is that God’s timing is perfect. I need to be continually reminded of that, though (my flesh kicks in!), and God was even awesome enough to remind me of His perfect timing today!
Let’s back up, though. How did my mom having cancer teach me about God’s perfect timing? Even at the beginning of her journey, God’s timing was so prevalent in the way that Mom got appointments so soon and easily with specialists that would normally take months to get appointments with. The end of Mom’s journey, though, was where God’s perfect timing stood out to me the most. The last week or so of Mom’s life, none of us knew the timing of when she would pass away, but God did. The day Mom went to be with Jesus, Jack and I were at Daddy’s house at a time when we normally would not have been, just because. Daddy and Richie also had just gotten in the door from an eye appointment just in time for us to all have a few last precious minutes together. Mom passed away on August 2nd, just a few weeks before Richie moved into college; Richie was able to go to college with a peace knowing where Mom was. These are just a few examples of how God’s timing was so perfect in this situation. Because of this, I have real life experience to look back on the next time I am questioning God’s timing. God is sovereign, He knows best, and He is in control.
God reminded me of His perfect timing again today. I went and had lunch with my best friend, Courtney, and after we decided to go check out a new store, Palmetto Twist. As we were shopping, the store owner got a phone call that her sister in law was passing away. Courtney and I got a chance to talk with her, and found out her sister in law had been battling cancer for several years. We got a chance to pray with her before she left to go be with her family. I fully believe that God’s perfect timing ordained for us to be in that store for “such a time as this!” Please join me in praying for this family!
God’s timing isn’t our timing. In fact, we may not sometimes understand His timing, but we should know that God is sovereign and has a perfect reason for His timing. Next time you are waiting on God’s timing for an answered prayer or in a situation, remember that. Think back on a time where God showed Himself perfect in His timing and lean on that. If you can’t think of a time, borrow mine! I challenge you to wait on the Lord and trust in His timing. As you wait, draw close to Him, spend time in prayer, and get in His Word. You won’t regret it! I would love for you to share a time when you stood in awe of God’s perfect timing!
