We were thrilled to finally begin our adoption process in the spring! Since then, we’ve been on our agency’s waitlist, where we started as #15. At the beginning of each month, we received an email update, and each one blew us away at how quickly we were moving up the list.
Months ago, Jack planned a mission trip with our church to Madagascar. He’s been gone for 10 days (side note: we’re so glad he’s home!). As we saw ourselves creep up the list, we joked we’d go active while he was in Madagascar. Deep down, though, I didn’t really think it would happen. Our timeline with Faith was so slow that I never want to get my heart set on any specific time.
At the beginning of August, we were at the beach and received an email stating that we were #3 on the waitlist. We were thrilled! We thought that late August or September seemed like a real possibility for us to come off the waitlist.
Jack left for Madagascar on August 5. We created a plan for how to handle things in case we did get that active call, but again, I didn’t believe this would happen. On Friday morning, August 8, I was in the middle of my morning workout when my phone rang. The call came up as a “Public Service” number, so I assumed it was spam, and kept on with my workout video. After I finished, I glanced at my email and phone to realize I had an email and a voicemail from our agency. They had an active spot for us!! I was SHOCKED. I immediately texted Jack and prayed he’d see it.
He was teaching in a seminary in Madagascar, but thankfully, he was able to see my text when he finished. He was in shock as well! All of this happened a week ago, and I still can’t believe it! Now, we’re officially an “Active” family at Flourish!
So, what does this mean? In short, we can match with an expectant mom. Flourish will create a Facebook page and website for us. These will share about our family in hopes of connecting us with an expectant mom who has made an adoption plan for her baby. We’ll also be able to have our profile book shown to expectant moms that our agency works with. There’s zero timetable for this part of the process. We could match quickly, or we could wait a while. Truly, only the Lord knows!
As we enter this next step, these are specific ways to pray:
- Pray for wisdom for both us and the expectant mom as we seek to match.
- Pray for protection for the baby inside the womb.
- Pray for the expectant mom as she seeks to make the best decision for her and her baby.
- Pray for the attachment/bonding process that will need to happen between all 5 of us and the baby.
- Pray for our relationship with the expectant mom, that we will honor her and love her well.
- Pray for the Lord to continue to provide financially.
Of course, we want to praise the Lord no matter what! These are specific praises:
- The Lord is providing financially.
- So far, this timeline is moving much faster than we expected.
- Technology! We were able to complete all the paperwork and pay the agency fee required for us to go active, even with Jack on the other side of the world!
- God is teaching us to rely on Him in all things. His sanctification during this process is a blessing.
